How it all started...
In the 1920's there were very few churches in Brunswick and very little Pentecostal influence in the area. In 1926, Rev. S. C. Chambers, brought his tent to Brunswick and set it up on "O" Street for revival. During this revival the first Church of God in Brunswick Ga was organized with 8 members.
The first place of worship was a little rented store building for $8.00 per month. In 1927, they got their first pastor, Rev. Rueben Sweat. They leased a little building at the corner of "L" Street and Ellis and have never looked back.

The Church had grown and prospered by 1932 and they purchased its own piece of property 2718 Ellis Street, and soon built a frame structure in which to worship. For the next 25 years, Ellis Street Church of God continued to grow building a heritage that continues to this day.
Then under the leadership of Pastor Charles Clayton the church bought a piece of property at 3220 Norwich Street. In the fall of 1957, Ellis Street Church of God moved to its new facilities and officially became known as Norwich Street Church of God. For the next 30 years, Norwich Street became a leading Church of God in South Georgia.
In July 1984, a decision was made to purchase a tract of land owned by Union Camp near I-95. During this time with the Lord's help, just over 39 acres were purchased and the Norwich Street property was sold and the congregation moved to the Holiday Inn on Hwy 341.
The congregation officially became known as the Golden Isles Parkway Church of God; and on November 1, 1987, the Family Life Center was dedicated and a new era began. In October 1993, the new worship center was dedicated.
In January 2020 the church remodeled and rebranded to continue to move forward with the mission and vision at the Golden Isles Church of God. We are excited for the future, as God continues to bless and lead every step of the way.

reaching beyond our walls...
We desire to be known as a church who gives back generously to their city/community. We have the tremendous honor to partner with other organizations and nonprofit programs to not only give back but to help those in need.
From feeding the homeless, to making braille bibles for the blind, making goodie baskets for widows/widowers, providing Christmas gifts for kids in need, or hosting cancer survivor dinners.
We love our church family and we love our community! We want to see our faith reach into our Community. We want to transcend beyond our church walls and be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, so we can see lives impacted through outreach.

We are faith, family, and friends...
It's more than just a mission statement. We truly believe that everyone should have a place at Golden Isles Church of God to grow in their spiritual walk with Christ. We desire for people from all walks of life to get connected to a church family they can call home, and become partners with us as we love and serve our community here in South Georgia!
